Charles Eames

Biography

1940-1950

In 1940 Charles received his first recognition for furniture design, from a chair designed by himself and Saarinen's son Eero. Exploding into the Modern Art scene, Charles invented his world-renowned Eames lounge chair only a year later with Herman Miller, a fellow colleague. That same year Charles married one of his fellow Cranbrook students, Ray Kaiser.
